Pretty simple really.
Our black and yellow "sharks teeth" gear is up to 8 years old now, and getting past it. We have an intake of new bowlers that need to be kitted out. So what are they to do?
Despite the best efforts of Doreen Mac to design and price some new gear, the initiative has not been approved by all members, so we remain in limbo.
Current New Zealand national champion Russell Meyer is currently battling it out with the world's best singles exponents in Aberdeen, Scotland. See all the latest results for this major event that Kiwi men have won twice before. No New Zealand woman is competing as Malaysian Siti Zalina Ahmad is the current New Zealand singles champion.
Auckland Bowls has kindly published its latest annual report (pdf ~3MB). It makes interesting reading.
So where is Bowls Wellington's annual report? These days it really must be put up on their website.
After the recent Worlds in January it was announced that the 2012 event would use the sets format for all disciplines. Now sets is a reasonable format for singles, particularly for the Aussie and UK television audiences, but rubbish for other disciplines. In sets an end can't be killed, the jack gets respotted left, right and centre, etc etc.
Thankfully Bowls Australia has announced the sets format has been dropped. The Commonwealth Games should do likewise and, moreover, reinstate the fours title.
Bowls Tawa has been upgraded to Drupal 6.2. Nice system Drupal – every bowls organisation should use it. Or Mambo.
There's not much here at the moment, just a few bowls titles and some links.
There's also an html version of the Laws of Bowls, and an application showing how event calendars from various sources can be combined.
